Chiropractic

A chiropractor is a primary health care professional concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.

Through manual adjustments/manipulations of the spine and joints, chiropractors can influence the body’’s nervous system and natural defense mechanisms in order to alleviate pain, relieve pressure on the nerves, improve general health, and promote the body’s natural healing capability. Because of its effectiveness in treating back/neck problems, headaches, extremity dysfunction, and other injuries and traumas, chiropractic treatment is highly sought after.

The word “chiropractic” is derived from the Greek words “cheir” and “praktkos” meaning “done by hand.” Chiropractic physicians strive to diagnose and correct biomechanical disturbances (subluxation) and nervous system blockages.  These blockages often manifest in symptoms of inflammation, tension, pain, numbness, muscle spasms, joint mobility restrictions and may have an impact on the body as a whole. The term “subluxation”, as utilized within the chiropractic health care system, means a structural or functional impairment of a vertebra (a bone in the spine).

The law of physics states “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”. When a vertebra becomes misaligned (subluxated) due to an external or internal pressure, the chiropractor can restore the alignment by applying an opposite pressure in the appropriate manner.  The nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ and system in your body. If there is a misalignment (subluxation) in the spine, it could interfere with the function of the nervous system.  Therefore, correction of the misalignment (subluxation) allows the nerves to flow freely from the brain to the rest of the body.
