The holidays are a time to lift each other up, and this year we’re excited to spread a little extra cheer to members of our newest community. St. Barnabas has historically done a 'Presents for Patients' program where they collect donations to give to the residents in the skilled nursing and rehab facilities. Like them, over the last few years we did Angel Trees at both of our offices to help collect gifts for local children in the communities we serve. We felt that this year was the perfect opportunity to use our previous Angel Tree project to give back to the older population being supported at St. Barnabas.
So, we need your help! We have a list of 60 patients that could use some joy this holiday. Both our West View and McCandless offices now have a giving tree filled with tags, each representing a resident from that list who could use a thoughtful gift to brighten their holiday. These items are simple comforts many of us enjoy every day: a warm blanket, cozy socks, soft lotion, a puzzle book, or a small seasonal treat.
It's simple:
- Grab a tag.
- Purchase 2-4 items from the list of suggestions on the tag.
- Bring back the items to our McCandless or West View Offices - unwrapped - with the tag and we will take care of the rest!
To make giving easier, we’ve put together wish list guides for both male and female residents (age 65+). Popular items include:
Comfort & warmth: fleece blankets, non-skid socks, lounge pants, hats, scarves
Self-care items: unscented lotions, chapstick, hand cream, gentle body wash
Activities: large-print word search and puzzle books, adult coloring books, playing cards
Snacks & treats: soft cookies, sugar-free candy, hot chocolate packets
Optional holiday extras: ornaments, festive socks, small décor items
If you’re unable to stop in for a tag, you can still participate, simply choose any item from the guides or donate generally, and call us at 412-931-3066. We’ll happily match your donation to a resident so your gift feels personal.
Donations will be accepted at both offices through Monday, December 22nd.
As we prepare to bring Heyl Family Practice to the St. Barnabas community in the new year, we’re grateful for the opportunity to begin that connection with kindness. Thank you for helping us share comfort, warmth, and joy with our neighbors this holiday season.
