October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Annual mammograms can detect cancer early - when it is most treatable. In fact, mammograms show changes in the breast up to TWO years before a patient or clinician can detect a abnormality.  If Breast Cancer is found at an early stage, there is a greater chance of successful treatment.

The American Cancer Society recommends that women receive annual mammograms starting at Age 40 - even if they have no symptoms or family history of Breast Cancer.

Did you know that 9 out of 10 women diagnosed with Breast Cancer feel no symptoms or have a family history of the disease?

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation recommends a 3 step approach to Breast Cancer Screening:

  • Annual mammograms beginning at Age 40
  • Clinical breast exam at least every 3 years beginning at age 20, and annually from Age 40
  • Monthly breast self exam beginning by Age 20
